Aquaman (2018)

December 31, 2018

Aquaman is an origin film of Arthur Curry, the half-human, half-Atlantean, and heir to the throne of the technologically advanced city of Atlantis.

In this feature film, Aquaman (Jason Momoa),  must stop his half brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) from uniting the seven underwater kingdoms and wage a war with the surface dwellers.

The film takes place right after the events of Justice League and reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry.  It takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be…a king.

Director James Wan does his absolute best in delivering a visually stunning film that merits a viewing on IMAX screens. The film has action, romance and comedy but once again, DC misses the mark in delivering a truly epic film that DC fans deserve.

Aquaman is still an entertaining film but it does stumble on a few fronts. First off, as visually breath taking as the film is, the introduction of Atlantis eerily resembles that of Black Panther. Second, the under water battle sequences reminded me of The Lord of the Rings or the Hobbit battle scenes. Third' as much as the cast try to bring these characters to life, I find that something got lost on the way to the big screen

Don’t get me wrong, Aquaman is still an entertaining film but it does fall short which inhibits it from becoming the total blockbuster that DC fans deserve to see by now.
