Bumblebee (2018)

Updated: Nov 21, 2022

This standalone prequel reboot in the Transformers live action feature film franchise, centres around one of the series' most beloved characters, Bumblebee.

In the film the Autobots have lost the great war and must flee their fallen homeworld of Cybertron.

Bumbleebee is given the task of setting up a base on earth in order for the Autobots to regroup and eventually take back Cybertron.

However, Bumblebee's arrival on Earth is troubled when he runs across a group of U.S. soldiers, led by Jack Burns (John Cena). It turns out that Bumblebee did befriend one Human, that of outcast, master mechanic Charlie Watson (Hailee Steinfeld).

After Burns orders the Autobot be hunted and destroyed, things get even worse when Humans and Transformer are attacked by a Decepticon. During this fight, Bumblebee's voice box is damaged along with his memory, before being defeated.

I for one had very little expectations walking into Bumblebee. Personally, The Transformers feature film franchise has been a major disappointment so I cringed when a friend suggested we see Bumblebee. Besides the debut live action film, it takes me multiple viewings to get through the sequels.

Well, I was pleasantly surprised with this prequel /reboot, it's the best installment in the franchise since the debut live action film (not that, that is saying much).

Bumblee has enough action, humour and adventure for the whole family and WWE wrestler John Cena does a great job as Jack Burns.

Well if you've been disappointed with the Transformers films thus far, just like me, Bumblebee will give you a, ehm, spark of hope!
