Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)

Solo: A Star Wars Story is the second of Lucasfilm's anthology movies, released as part of the revived franchise since the studio was acquired by Disney in 2012.

As the title suggests this is the origin story of how our favourite smuggler with a heart of gold comes to meet his best friend/co-pilot, Chewbacca, how they crossed paths with smuggler Lando Calrissian and how they came into possession of the Millennium Falcon.

In my opinion Solo: A Star Wars Story is a solid entry in the Star Wars franchise. The film crosses all T’s and dots all its I’s, but it lacks that “oomph” factor like most of the Star Wars films since the prequels were released. The film is still entertaining and there is a lot to enjoy. I thought that Alden Ehrenreich’s and Donald Glover’s portrayal of Han solo and Lando Calrissian, respectively, really honored the original trilogy without having them resorting to doing Harrison ford and Billy Dee Williams impersonations Another saving grace of the film, the use of practical effects during the action sequences in the film; most notably the train heist sequence midway through the film.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is another entertaining entry in “A Galaxy Far, Far Away”, series but I think it’s just not quite the classic we’ve been waiting for
