The film picks up three years after Jurassic World where the Isla Nubalar is left abandoned with the dinosaurs running free.  However, a long-dormant volcano under the island has become active again and it’s up to Owen and Claire to head an expedition to get the dinosaurs off the island to a sanctuary where they can live in peace. Of course, the expedition goes south as our heroes realize they were pawns in a conspiracy to bring the dinosaurs back to the Lockwood Estate to be sold and/or “weaponized”.

In my opinion, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is an interesting sequel. I really enjoyed that the creative team finally destroyed the island. Honestly, how many more times can the island be regulated and allowed to continue as a theme park?  The whole idea behind this franchise, and the book that the films were based on, was how would it be like if dinosaurs were brought back alongside modern mankind. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom takes the premise of the book and the first film then takes it to a different and compelling direction that hopefully can be further explored in the third installment in the trilogy.

My only minor issue with the film is the is the relationship between Owen and Claire. Their on-again, off-again romance seems to be included to make sure that the elements of a Hollywood blockbuster are being met.

Other than that, Fallen Kingdom is a solid entry that is trying to build something new and exciting off the Jurassic Park mythology.
