E3 2017: Ubisoft Presentation

Introduction

We saw yesterday a little bit of Assassin's Creed Origins. We will probably see more of this today. After that, I did not really think about it. Let us see what was showed and was it a good keynote, presentation or whatever people call these things. :)

Mario and Rabbids: Kingdom Battle

I have to say that this conference started with a bang with Miyamoto. It is nice to see a Nintendo presence outside of the Nintendo conferences. The game itself looks like it is pretty fun. I guess it shows support from 3rd party developers. Seems that Ubisoft has jumped onboard and it is good to see. Many are saying that this is an XCOM for Mario. I think that it is a great analogy. Seems that it will be released August 2017.

Assassin's Creed: Origins

This was demoed before and looked like a great game. The gameplay seems to have changed a little. You have a bow and arrow and you also have an aid of an eagle. The eagle seems to help you visualize an area and enemies so that you can plan your attack. I find odd that they showed real gameplay from a monitor outside. The gameplay demo was awful. I am surprised that the presentation for this game was not as long. There was actually no footage for this game at this conference. So the trailer would be the same as the XBOX Presentation.

The Crew 2

This was a surprise. They have announced a a brand new The Crew game. The trailer looked like a Dr. Strange world where different worlds collide together. I liked the original game. a It looks like you do not just race cars. You seem to be able to fly planes and ride dirt bikes. Looks like they are taking all the good elements of other games and did this one. It will be out early 2018.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole Trailer

All that I want to say is that I want to play this game. It will be out October 17th, 2017. I love South Park and I loved the last game. It was hilarious. So I expect the same for this one.

Transference

This was a weird promo. It did not really say much about the game except that it will play with your mind. I cannot really comment on it as the trailer was very short. See for yourself.

Skull & Bones

So this game is based heavily on Assassin's Creed Black Flag. It takes essentially all of the Assassin's Creed part out and just leaves the pirate parts, which is what was the most fun on that game. I have to admit that it looks interesting. It will be released in Fall 2018.

South Park Phone Destroyer

This is a south Park Mobile game. I do not know why they did not announce this with the other trailer before. I do not have much more to say on this,

Starlink: Battle of Atlas

So this looks like it is a game to sell toys. I know that they tried to make it interesting but I was not sold on this as it did not work for Toys to Life. This will be a game for the Switch. May be it will work for that fanbase. Time will tell.

Far Cry 5

This game looks good on the trailer leaked last week or 2 weeks ago. The trailer got me wanting to get into Far Cry again. I did not play Primal or any game after 2. The level of detail in the demo was amazing. Looks kind of like a present day Fallout. The one thing that I will say is that the environments looked awesome but the hand and the gun in the hand did not look polished. Is it just me? The gameplay however does look fun.

Beyond Good and Evil 2

This was a surprise for me as I was not expecting this to be showed this year. It looks impressive. It was a good trailer. I know that there will be many fans that are going to be happy about this. I read that some were disappointed about the swearing but what will you do. It looks like a fun game and that is all that we as gamers can ask for.

Bottomline

I think that this was a strong showing for Ubisoft. You may agree or not with their games, but in the end, they show that they are creative. They try new things and it is refreshing. many fans will always say that their games release buggy. That is a fair statement but in the end they patch it up and the games are usually good after.

I could not care about Just Dance 2018. That was a completely useless demo. Also there were weaker moments like South Park Mobile game and Steep getting an Olympic expansion.

Standouts for me were Far Cry 5 and The Crew 2. Assassin'S Creed was great as well. However I could have lived without the outside monitor demo.

I think this was a good conference for Ubisoft. They showed a variety of games and most of them looked good.
