E3 Roundup 2016 (Nintendo Impressions) - Part 3

Updated: Nov 20, 2022

Introduction

So Nintendo was at E3 even though they did not make too much noise. I think this was a very disappointing showing. On the other hand, I believe that this will be one of the last E3 that Nintendo will have a showcase at. I think that in the near future, like many other companies, like Activision, will have their own events scattered during the year.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The only really big Wii game that they announced was Zelda which is not surprising. It is one of the 4 or 5 big games that they release on any given year. The game looks good and fun. Will it make people buy more Wii's, the answer is unfortunately no. I think that it is too little too late for this console. We will need to watch for the Nintendo NX which was not even mentioned at the conference.

I know that they need to show off something, but why not give it a pass this year and come back stronger next year. I believe because Nintendo is one of the biggest names in video games, they feel the need to have a showing.

Pokémon™ Sun and Pokémon Moon

This is a Pokemon game and it will be on the 3DS. Release date is November 18th, 2016 and can play up to 4 players.

Since I do not play much of Pokemon, I do not have much of an opinion about this game. It is not as if I was looking forward to play this game. It will probably be a good game as most Pokemon games are.

Jotun: Valhalla Edition

This looks like a role playing game with boss battles. The artwork I must admit does look awesome. It is set to release in Summer 2016. Nintendo categorizes it as an Action-Explorer type of game.

Severed

This game is a puzzle game that will be released on both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. This looks fun as may be an app but not a full game on the Wii.

Conclusion

These were the games that I thought stood out for Nintendo. There were a few more games that were announced, but no matter how you put it, I think both the gamers and Nintendo are waiting for the new Nintendo NX to be announced. This will definitely not sell more Wii U's. Many Wii U's have been gathering dust in closets as there are just not that many games available and most of their games are similar puzzle type games.

We will see what happens in the coming months, but Nintendo, needs a big hit for it to be in everyday talk. They are running on reputation right now and they are banking on titles that are not new.

Let me know what you think.
