Welcome to the Aroundtable's sixth installment in the countdown to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977)
Set almost two decades after the rise of the Empire in Episode III. Luke Skywalker is thrust into a galactic war when he comes across two droids and Jedi Obi Wan Kenobi.
Under Obi Wan’s tutelage, Luke, with the help of space smuggler Han Solo and trusted co-pilot Chewbacca, take on a mission to rescue Princess Leah who is held captive on the most destructive weapon in the galaxy. The Death Star.
This was the first film where I truly understood the magic of movies. I really felt that I was part of the adventure in a galaxy far, far away. The film made such an impact on me that still to this day, every time the lights go out in the theatre, I’m taken back to that magical day where a young boy was awestruck and believed he could become a Jedi.
This film just didn’t define a generation, it defined the genre. This is the film that all other sci-fi films are compared to.
