Creed (2015)

Sylvester Stallone created one of the most iconic movie underdogs in cinematic history with Rocky and went on to produce six feature films in this hugely successful franchise. Now, Stallone revisits the character in Creed; a symbolic “passing of the torch” film that revitalizes the franchise for today’s movie goers.

Michael B. Jordon, plays Adonis, the illegitimate son of former rival and friend to Balboa, Apollo Creed. As Adonis tries to escape the legacy that comes with the name, he searches out Balboa to help in his training as a boxer.

In the Rocky movies, the “big fight” was never just in the ring and this message rings true in Creed. As Balboa gets Adonis to stand on his own, it revitalizes Balboa’s own fight for life.

Hats off to Director Ryan Coogler who manages to balance one of the most realistic fight sequences ever filmed with one of the most character driven movies since the second instalment of the Rocky franchise.

If you want a movie that has great characters, a whole lot of heart and some strong life lessons, then you owe it to yourself to see Creed.
