On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)

With the latest release in the Bond franchise only two weeks away, we at Aroundtable have assembled our own must-watch /essential 007 movies to see in order to get you in the spirit of Bond.

When Sean Connery walked away from the Bond franchise after his fifth incarnation of 007 in, You Only Live Twice, it gave George Lazenby a chance at the “Aston Marten”, so to speak. According to IMDB, “Lazenby quit the role of Bond right before the premiere of his only film, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969), citing he would get other acting roles, and that his Bond contract, which was fourteen pages thick, was too demanding on him.” The film has since grown in status over the years; even Director Christopher Nolan listed, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, as his favourite Bond film. Had Lazenby stuck around for a few more films, he could have run neck in neck with Connery as a fan favourite.
