Simply Red: Big Love (2015)

With the thirtieth anniversary of Simply Reds’ debut album “Picture Book” approaching, lead singer/songwriter Mick Hucknall announced a world tour and the release of a new album called, Big Love.

If you’re familiar with Simply Red, then you know that Hucknall is an avid admirer of soul music and it’ll come as no surprise that the new album reflects just that. Big Love is made up of twelve generally laid back 70’s soul infused pop songs and is the first album since 1995’s “Life” with exclusively original compositions. The laid back, stripped down affair of this album is definitely its charm. Simply Red isn’t chasing trends with this latest release; they’re just being the soul band they were shooting for thirty years ago.
