Star Wars

There have not been many movies that have impacted me like Star Wars. I remember sitting in the theatre as a young boy and being transported to a galaxy far, far away as of the first second of the opening scene.

From that day, Star Wars has become my bench mark or reference point for all Sci-Fi fantasy movies. Any and all critiques/reviews are based on that experience. When the lights go dark, will I be transported away, will something resonate with me? That excitement, anxiety, hope for that next "Star Wars" is with me each and every time I watch a movie.

So why am I writing this article about my love of Star Wars? Because I love Star Wars, always have and always will. So, on October 30th 2012, when Disney announced they purchased Lucasfilm for over four billion dollars, I felt that something from my childhood was taken from me. I know it sounds crazy, but that was my initial reaction. Especially when I heard Disney was planning a new trilogy and numerous spin off films, and that George Lucas would be nothing more than a consultant.

As time went on and we found out that Star Wars episode seven would be directed by none other than J.J. Abrams of Super 8, and Star Trek fame and he would writing the new script with Lawrence Kasdan, the co-writer of The Empire Strikes Back., now my anxiety has started to subside….a little.

Only time will tell and how all of this will play out. All we can hope for is that Disney doesn’t change Star Wars into a Pirates of the Caribbean in space.
