E3 2017: Bethesda Presentation

Updated: Nov 20, 2022

Introduction

I will admit that I did not stay up to watch this press conference. I did not expect much from the conference and nothing would surprise me. I watched it on my way to work. Let us see how this presentation fared.

Doom VFR

So it looks like they are jumping on the VR train and coming out with 2 games. There was one of them that I know about. However this game caught me off guard. I really loved the last Doom game and I was surprised to see the new game aptly named Doom VFR. The gameplay looked similar to the game that came out last year. but it is nice to see some big name game in the VR space. I am not sure however if it is a game or just looking around shooting a few things.

Fallout 4 VR

So this was the game that I did expect to see in the VR space. It looks good but I am not a big VR fan. So this game is not really for me but it does look and feel like a regular Fallout game. It will be available to play October 2017.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

So this is the first time that we see Nintendo in a promotion. The announcement was to add Amiibo functionality. I am not too excited for this myself as I have played Skyrim and for me, it does not add any value. However, the Switch is getting some love.

Dishonored: Death of an Outsider

This game looks really good. It made me want to play it. However, it is my type of game. I love these story driven games. In addition,I really liked the feel of the game. Dishonored will be released in September 15th 2017.

The Evil Within 2

This was a very anticipated game. I have to say that I really liked the touch of using the song Ordinary World by Duran Duran. It is a nice cover and brings a cool feel to the game. I will admit I was not too familiar with this game going in but it looks like it is influenced by Resident Evil. It is dark. May be one of many but it still looks like I can enjoy this game. Time will tell. This game will be available on October 13th, 2017.

Wolfenstein II

I admit that I loved every iteration of this franchise. I especially liked the last 2 as they were fun as hell. I like how the beginning of this video looks like the start of a Lassie TV show. Yeah Nazi's are being used everywhere as the sworn enemy of everyone. However, I love his this is the alternate universe of, if the other side would have won, what would happen. This trailer is awesome and I wanted to pick up a controller and play. I think that I may play the older games until this one gets released. It will be out in October 2017.

Other things

There were a few other announcements that I am not sure that I really care for but I guess there is interest in them. They announced Quake: Champions. I guess this will be an eSport. I do not really care for eSports. I just play the games for myself. The gameplay looked awesome though.

Elder Scrolls Legends will receive some new Skyrim content. This does not do anything for me either as I have never played it.

I almost forgot, they also announced this thing called Creation Club. It is a platform where developers can create mods for games. At this point it is for Skyrim and Fallout 4. You can pay for those mods. It is another way of getting to the packets of the consumer. I understand it, although I do not like it.

Bottomline

I must say that it was better than I expected. The Wolfenstein II trailerlooked so good. I can lose myself in those games for hours.

The Evil Within 2 looked pretty good as well. I find that most of these games have a similar theme. They are all dark. I hope that in future years, games will be a little more colourful and not so gray and depressing.

The VR stuff, although not my cup of tea looked interesting. I am not sure that I will be using VR anytime soon. I would like to try them at some point though.

All in all it was better than expected and in my eyes better than the EA Presentation. There are good things coming and they look great.

Now on to the Ubisoft conference!

Let me know what you think! What did you like most about the Bathesda conference?
