Paul McCartney reviews his post Beatle albums with Pure McCartney. To paraphrase the liner notes, this album was put together by McCartney and his team in order to have something fun to listen to. In essence, McCartney has created a play list of his own music. The set has been available since June 10th in three different formats; 2CD or 4CD, 4LP and Digital download.
Pure McCartney is a good overview of Paul’s solo career. We finally get a compilation that doesn’t stop at 1983’s Pipes of Peace and incorporates songs from Press to Play, Flaming Pie, Chaos and Creation in the Backyard as well as Memory Almost Full. I say, these songs are finally given their due respect.
I was however totally disappointed that this compilation bypassed the criminally underrated, Flowers in the Dirt and Driving Rain albums. Seriously, omitting My Brave Face weighs heavily on this set.
All in all, Pure McCartney is still a solid release, regardless of the omissions.
