Unsung Heroes Part 5: Hellboy II The Golden Army (2008)

Over the last few years movies based on comic books have become a huge box office draw, and this trend shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. But that wasn’t always the case. There was a time when movies based on comic books were actually a “gamble” for movie studios. So I would like to dedicate the next couple of reviews to some of those “gambles and or forgotten movies that turned the public’s view around on the comic book phenomena. So here we go some of the unsung heroes that started the global success of comic based movies.

Once again, del Toro takes the second exploit of a movie and builds upon its predecessor. Hellboy II has everything a sequel should have. Character development, amazing action, outstanding visuals and an enemy that truly pushes the boundary of our hero.

In a nutshell there is war coming between mythical creatures and mankind, and it is up to Hellboy and his teammates from the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defence to stop it.

Director Guillermo del Toro has a way in this supernatural worlds that has yet to be beat. Every frame looks “magical” making the movie look like nothing you’ve seen before. If you allow yourself to be pulled into the world of Hellboy, it makes for one hell of a ride. I strongly recommend that you watch Hellboy II; The Golden Army.
