The Who have managed to survive for a half a century in the music business and in celebration of this milestone, the band has released another compilation called, The Who Hits 50!
Most of the songs have appeared on one compilation or another over the last 50 years, but there are few surprises on this new release that may make it worth your while to add to your collection. First up, is the cover of the Rolling Stones’ song ‘’The Last Time’’ (They also celebrated 50 years together by the way). Then there is ‘Relay’, a track that has not been seen on a compilation from as far back as I can remember. Hits 50! also includes such songs as ‘Athena’ and ‘It’s Hard’ from their early 80’s recordings and if that wasn’t enough, the band has recorded a great new song called ‘Be Lucky’.
Some long time Who fans might complain about the edited version of ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again’ or the omission of ‘Long Live Rock’, but I think it’s great to have a different selection of songs for this compilation. It makes this album far more exciting to listen to.
All in all a good package for those just discovering the band, and a welcome addition to any Who fans collection.
