Bob Seger returns with another dose of rock, blues, country and soul after an eight years hiatus with his seventeenth studio album, Ride Out. The album is available in regular and deluxe editions with bonus tracks.

This newest release is a mix of Seger originals and cover songs with contributions from John Hiatt (Detroit Made), Steve Earle (The Devil’s Right Hand) and Wilco and Billy Bragg (California Stars).

Ride Out expresses Bob Seger’s reflective mood with each song; contemplating on such subjects as climate change, gun control, greed, and faith. This newest release may not rock as much as Seger’s classic albums, but this open and reflective Seger makes Ride Out a refreshing listening experience. However, Seger fans need not worry, Ride Out has some great “meat and potatoes” rock songs they are more accustomed to, such as Detroit Made, Hey Gypsy & Ride Out.

I believe this latest release from this rock icon isn’t an attempt of reinvention or a cash grab at nostalgia but more of a picture of an artist looking at his life, the world and where he fits into it all. And of course, in the only way he knows how…the Bob Seger way.
