Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion

The newly acquired Disney Franchise unleashed its debut episode(s) of Star Wars Rebels called “Spark of Rebellion” this week, the animated series takes place between episode III and IV in the Star Wars universe.

The Spark of Rebellion in actuality is two episodes put together with a running time of approximately forty four minutes.

The story: It is a dark time, the Jedi are no more and the Empire is tightening its hold across the galaxy. But a rag tag group of rebels (Kanan Jarrus, Hera Syndulla, Zeb Orrelios and Sabine Wren and Chopper) plan to fight the good fight against the evil empire with newest member Ezra Bridger.

The Good

  • The debut episodes definitely has that original trilogy vibe that most Star Wars fans have been waiting for.

  • There is enough action and adventure to keep new and old Star Wars fans interested in the series.

  • The animation is pretty good, very close in style to The Clone Wars.

The Bad

  • The debut episodes didn’t give us enough of the inner workings of these new characters.

  • The Wookies looked awful, and I hope they are improved upon in future episodes.

  • Since it is a dark period in the Star Wars time line, I was hoping that the series would be a little darker in tone.

The Bottom Line

This new animated series had a lot to live up to, but what it lacked in character development it made up with action and adventure that has that been absent in the Star Wars franchise for some time. For those who believe that Star Wars was supposed to be fun, Rebels looks like it has the potential to do just that.
