The French Director and screen writer Luc Besson's movie Lucy was released this past July 2014. The movie starring Scarlett Johanson and Morgan Freeman is about a woman who unwillingly is involved in an underground type of deal to help a friend. Not knowing what she was getting herself into, the deal turns bad, and she ends up having to transport a new revolutionary drug allowing the user to have access to their unused brain functions. The drugs where surgically implanted in her stomach for transport, however large amounts of the drug ended up going into her bloodstream. This is basically the premise of the movie. Lucy transforms into a warrior: not only proficient in fighting skills, but also develops various mental abilities such as telepathy, telekinesis, mental time travel and, and she can choose not to feel pain or other discomforts. In her journey, she contacts Morgan Freeman's character Professor Samuel Norman, whose research into the ability of using 100% of the human brain allows Lucy to survive the transformation.
As you can see, the plot is quite complex, yet if you are a science fiction fan, this is right up your alley. In my opinion, the premise of the movie is quite cool....the possibility of using 100% of your brain. The writing and action scenes are fine. However, the ending appeared to be rushed and not developed. I think with a premise like this, the screen writers should of taken a little longer and have a much more realistic turn than turning Lucy into intelligent black matter.
The bottom line is that I enjoyed the movie, but it is not a science fiction master piece. Its one of those movies that you enjoy and escape for an hour or so.
