Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

The sequel takes place ten years after the events of ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes'. Mankind has almost been wiped out by a virus, while Caesar and the Apes have been thriving in the Muir Woods. Of course this is all about to change when a search party looking for a hydroelectric dam come across the apes’ sanctuary, re-opening new possibilities and old wounds.

Without giving anything away, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is a blockbuster of epic proportions. The apes are the true stars of this picture and they are amazing to watch. Andy Serkis (Caesar), and Tobey Kebbell (Koba) are but a few of the actors who merged “motion capture acting” with computer graphics to bring the apes to life and that is truly an understatement. From the opening scene to the end credits you cannot tell where the actor ends and the CG starts.

Director Matt Reeves takes the time to establish ape and human character alike giving the film goer a reason to emotionally invest into each. This in turn makes the action and drama all that more thrilling.

Without a doubt, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is perhaps the greatest entry into the Apes franchise since the original, Planet of the Apes, in 1968.

Do yourself a favour and go see this true summer 2014 blockbuster.
