My Favorite Record Producers: Bob Ezrin

Canadian-born record producer, arranger and songwriter Bob Ezrin has been in the music business for over four decades, and has worked with a wide variety of artists including: Alice Cooper, Kiss, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed, will.i.am, Jay-Z, Taylor Swift, U2, Green Day, Rod Stewart, Nine Inch Nails, 30 Seconds to Mars, The Darkness, Jane’s Addiction, the Deftones and many more.

Ezrin has a real good understanding of Sonics. He really knows how to get the music to sound lush and theatrical.

Essential Listening

1. Pink Floyd - The Wall (1979)- Lyrically and musically this may be Ezrin’s crowing achievement.

2. KISS - Destroyer (1976)- The first record that fixes Kiss’ past sonic inadequacy in the studio. Destroyer was the first studio album that kicked as much ass as their live records.

3. Alice Cooper - Billion Dollar Babies (1973)- Ezrin refines Cooper’s raw grit in favor of a slightly more polished sound resulting in mega selling album that would solidify his status as a rock icon.
